Warm-Up and Introduction

The session begins with a fun and energetic warm-up, preparing students physically and mentally. The facilitator introduces the story or stories that the students will be working on, setting the scene for the activities to follow.

Storytelling Through Music

Music plays a crucial role in storytelling, and we incorporate storytelling through music to add depth to the workshop. Students listen to different musical pieces that complement the story, and they learn how rhythm, tempo, and melody can influence the way a story is told.

Performance Practice

Once the choreography is ready, students rehearse their performances. This part of the workshop builds confidence and teamwork as students refine their movements and storytelling.

Exploring Characters Through Movement

Students learn to express different characters through specific dance movements, focusing on how body language can convey emotions, actions, and intentions. They will explore how different characters in a story move and react to different situations.

Choreographing Story Segments

Students work in small groups to create short performances based on segments of the story. They’ll combine dance movements with music to bring their assigned scenes to life, collaborating to plan their choreography and narrative flow.

Final Performance

The workshop concludes with students showcasing their work. They perform their story segments for each other, or in some cases, for a wider audience (e.g., other classes or parents). This performance is a chance to celebrate their hard work and creativity.

Suitable for EYFS, KS1, and KS2

Our storytelling through dance and storytelling through music workshops are highly adaptable to different age groups and learning levels. Each workshop is carefully crafted to suit the specific needs of your students, from early years to Key Stage 2.

🧸 For EYFS

(Early Years Foundation Stage), the focus is on simple stories, basic movements, and fun interactions. Young children engage in short, easy-to-follow narratives and use expressive dance to depict characters and events. The activities are designed to be playful and energetic, keeping younger students fully engaged while they develop their motor skills and understanding of storytelling.

🏃‍♂️ For KS1

(Key Stage 1), we begin to incorporate more complex stories and movements. Students are encouraged to interpret different aspects of a story—such as emotions, settings, and character actions—through dance and music. The sessions are structured to help children better understand storytelling concepts while allowing for creative exploration.

🎶 For KS2

(Key Stage 2), students tackle longer stories and more intricate dance routines. They are introduced to the idea of choreography, working in groups to plan and perform their interpretations of stories. At this stage, we delve deeper into how dance and music can be used to express themes, character development, and moral lessons in stories, providing a rich, educational experience that goes hand-in-hand with their literacy curriculum.
